Ryan Rogers-Hammond, Ph.D.
Experience
I completed my Ph.D. in Biomedical Science with a concentration on the biological underpinnings of aging. Next, I was faculty in the Sciences department, earning tenure, at a technical college for engineers. In addition to research and teaching responsibilities, I also developed and reviewed new undergraduate majors, wrote grants and manuscripts, and dedicated a great deal of time editing the work of my students and colleagues. At least once a year, I taught research courses, emphasizing grant and manuscript writing skills. After dedicating nearly seven years to training undergraduates, I took time to work on creative projects for myself. Shortly thereafter I was recruited to an aging lab at Harvard Medical School as the Scientific Writer and Project Manager. In addition to mentoring lab personnel and overseeing the progress of each project, I led the conceptual development and writing of many NIH and foundation grants, with a high rate of awarded funds. Creative writing has been my passion since elementary school. Now, I use this skill as a tool to keep my written communication skills sharp and even have a few projects in development for future publication. Aside from reading or writing, I love to run. As a collegiate athlete, I ran the steeplechase and cross country, and bumped up to marathons after graduating. Now, with two small children, I still run but have largely swapped races for adventures with my family. We live in Boston and love exploring all the city has to offer.
